Gruppebilde Bergen, 2020-22

Work in progress for Bergen City Hall.

Digital jacquard tapestries with machine generated images based on portraits submitted by residents in Bergen.

Commissioned by the City of Bergen

‘Gruppebilde Bergen’ is a work in progress for the City of Bergen. Through Fall and Winter 2020/2021 residents of Bergen, Norway, were invited to contribute their portrait for the project. The submitted portraits were processed by machine learning technology, in order to create new portraits of “Bergeners” for two large tapestries for Bergen City Hall.

Portraits were collected through an online open call and photo shoots at various public spaces around Bergen.

The artwork will be completed in the Summer of 2022 when Bergen City Hall reopens after extensive rehabilitation.

Thanks to all collaborators and everyone who contributed their portrait for the project.
